Many are filled with so much sugar that you might as well eat a chocolate bar, and the calorie count can actually be extremely high for the amount of food you’re actually eating.
Should Protein Bars Replace Meals?
The easy answer is no, protein bars definitely aren’t ideal when it comes to replacing your meals. The meals that you usually eat have more than one food group associated with them, and even though protein bars do as much as they can in order to make protein bars nutritional it still isn’t the same.
It isn’t ideal because you won’t have access to the lean meats and vegetables that your body has become accustomed to, and as a result you’ll notice the change almost immediately. You likely won’t be as satisfied with your ‘meal’ and you’ll be missing out on some key nutrients you’d get from a more balanced meal.
Protein is the kind of supplement that most people focus on, especially if you’re looking to build muscle. Bodybuilders and strength trainers are always looking to take in as much protein as possible, and that’s why a lot of them (if not all of them) use some sort of protein supplement with their training.
Now these guys and gals don’t just eat protein bars, they eat them alongside with their regular diets in order to help squeeze in a few extra grams of protein. Use supplements in the manner they were intended – as an addition to an already healthy and balanced diet.
